Agendas
Meeting ideas and agenda proposals.
We would like to start special presentations - OS items, applications, items of special interest - so please bring any suggestions for future topics. If you have a specialty that you'd like to present to us, please let us know so it can be scheduled.
Any and all topics are open for discussion.
See our OS/2-LUGbits for our online reference material and Library for our library and articles of current interest.
There will be more to come with eComStation and other OS's.
Our review will start around 8 PM and go no later than 10, leaving time for Q&A and discussions.
Software and hardware issues - do you have an unsolved or difficult to solve problem? A tough installation? This is the forum.
And check out our OS/2-LUGbits files for various materials we may have covered or will cover in the future.
Past years' agendas
2004:
January, February:
Continued with the IBM Linux training materials "Part 2".
Introduced some Red Hat Linux training materials.
Presentation of some eComStation (OS/2) applications.
March, April:
Reviewed new Linux books received from Pearson Ed - and a visit by their rep!
Started looking into LPI certification testing.
May, June:
LPI Certification, upcoming Linux/Tech shows.
Continued our study of regular expressions, Linux structures, and other subjects our members suggested.
July, August, September:
In preparation for the Group's LPI Certification, we reviewed the LPI 101/102 study material and 'Intro to vi' ... and what do you know about 'foo'?...
Continuing each month, we answered any questions related to materials in the 101 and 102 booklets, and began reviewing and discussing the 103 materials.
Various connectivity issues were discussed. Jay's eComStation 1.1 and its installed applications were demonstrated on a laptop as well.
October, November, December:
Whoa! Are we slow or what? We pretty much finished LPI booklet 103. It was a long time in coming and we still had to make everyone finish the last few pages on their own. We will attempt to begin the next booklet in the series at our next meeting.
2005:
January:
Whoa! We are slow indeed. We finished LPI booklet 103 and have made it about halfway through 104.
February thru the end of 2005:
Well, we finished LPI booklet 104 (!) and and spent the rest of the meeting discussing applications, sites and plans for upcoming meetings.
We've continued with various study courses, run applications and done a few Linux installs. Generally we're keeping up to date with the rapidly changing technology...
2006:
Thanks to Tory, the group has its own dedicated "lugbox" server/desktop machine. We have it set up with Debian GNU/Linux and it is running ssh and an ftp server, for those of you who may want to make use of it. Let us know if you're interested and we will setup an account for you.
Mike H also has a box setup as a router/firewall for a demonstration on how to make use of an old PC.
May:
For the May meeting we did a brief session on installing and using GnuPG. This is in preparation for a keysigning party being hosted by the Princeton LUG. We discussed the details at the meeting.
June:
For the June meeting we continued our session on installing and using GnuPG. We installed and set up the "enigmail" Thunderbird add-on that integrates GnuPG with the email client, making signing and encrypting email seamless. The keysigning party hosted by the Princeton LUG was a success. NJLINUX.ORG took 4 participants and overall there were 20 people involved which resulted in 19 properly verified signitories. We discussed the details at the meeting.
